Duskfall Organic Indigo Powder

Organic Indigo Powder (Indigofera tinctoria) is an herb that stains a deep blue, and is found in blends for brown or black hair.  It is sometimes wrongly called “black henna.”

Unlike henna, which takes time and warm temperatures to release a dye which lasts for hours, indigo releases dye instantly, but it breaks down within about two hours. Use with either a staggered step process for dark reds and browns, or a two-step process for black.

When blending browns and blacks, Duskfall Organic Indigo works perfectly with Solar Flare Organic Henna and Afterglow Organic Amla.

Caution

Herbal hair colors with henna and/or indigo are permanent and will not come out with conventional dye removal methods, if at all. Be smart and strand test.

Storage

Organic indigo powder can be stored for a year in a cool dark place (but not the fridge or freezer!), so long as it is kept in an airtight bag or container. The mud demises after 2 hours, and cannot be frozen. Freezing indigo powder will cause its dye to demise. You can compost or discard any unused indigo mud, or that has been exposed to air for more than a few hours.  The moisture in the air will cause indigo to demise, so always keep the powder in a sealed pouch.

Have been using this for several years mixed with the strawberry blond henna. I will not use anything else to color my hair.

Amazing as always, my daughter wanted to go darker again. She used this with the Solar Flare and her hair came out just as she wanted. It’s gorgeous. Thank you Melissa for the suggestions. 😊
